The only zoom i would ever suggest buying is a high end 70-200.

Other than that i think  non DX 24mm,35mm,50mm,85mm primes would be far far better in terms of image quality

its not only about image quality

primes make you interact with your environment while zooms make you sit still and creep on shit

same with zooms, may be zoomed in too little/ too much and by the time you find the object and focus there goes your shot

I'd say that's a pretty terrible argument against zooms. They definitely help you get the shot. The argument against them would be they might keep you from getting the shot at the best focal length.

I agree, primes end up producing more professional-looking photos. I'm very happy with my 35mm 1.8G prime lens.

it isnt, with a prime you know what the frame would look like, which can make you lose a shot as well

for a zoom you see something you want to shoot, then you have to find the appropriate zoom, find object, focus then shoot.

both can lose a shot for sure but i guess it depends on the context as well. something still vs moving vs distance

Vincent Laforet a great photographer states that that if you wait long enough its bound to happen again

which of those will loose you the shot with a zoom?

sorry that is a load of bull, chance of having the correct prime on is minimal
you could wait several lifetimes and a similar opportunity will not present itself again, nothing waits for us

don't get me wrong I do like primes, for wildlife for example I use 2 cameras 1with 70-200 and 1 with 300prime (depending on what I am going to shoot 1of them gets a 1.4x extender)
but prime zealots are missing out

i do agree with you in some ways, i think for events you need a zoom, but how many of us do those?

With a zoom you lose out on wider apertures for lower light, you lose the sharpness (yes high end zooms are awesome -but for a few hundred a prime is better) you also lose the ability to think about what you are shooting you end up zooming in and out to find your composition and forget about angling, perspective and creativity

i also think for thinks like wildlife when you are at higher focal lengths then zooms are essential but anything under 100mm i would prefer a prime!

if you need a fast shot the prime will get it even though it may not be the nominal distance

for a fast shot a zoom is less likely to get it but if you do do get it then it then it should look better.

lol in wild life you are waiting for something to happen, that isnt a quick shot.

when i think of quick shot i think of something that catches your eye as youre walking down the street and have only a few seconds to catch it.
