Don't tell him that because he will think he needs it when in reality it won't make a shit of difference in the beginning

Hahaha, I've already heard it, and it has led me to do hours and hours of research... probably in those hours of research, I could've paid off the lens by simply working a minimum wage job :-/

You've got more money than sense mate haha

Like i said in PM.. Just a 24-105 is fine for you. Completely fine.
I both lack and have too much in both categories. I have about $8k in the bank, I work a shit job, I'm a student, but I don't have a lot of expenses (school is paid for, rent is non-existent, food is paid for... although taking my gf out, car insurance, gas, etc, are not paid for -- so overall, I have cash to dump into hobbies). But yeh... I'm still taking steps back and thinking about the purchase before making it. $2400 is a lot to dump into a first DSLR + lens.

you will be amazed by the 24-105, yeah its not as good as the 24-70, but its still brilliant and covers a better range
The differences I've seen aren't too distinct. I noticed some comparison photos the 24-105 had washed out colors compared side-by-side with the 24-70... but that seems like the reviewer's fault? Was odd. Anyway, the 24-105mm seems to cover a better range for sure, and the 24-70 seems a tad bit heavy for a carry-around, plus its range is so limited that I've read in a lot of reviews that primes seem to really replace it in a lot of instances. It's a carry-around, and for carry-around, the 24-105mm seems to win for my purposes.
That said, I don't know what I'm talking about... well... I only know what I'm talking about in theory, which is worth very little haha.
