wide angle lenses are not good for shooting portraits due to the distortion

I've heard its not normal but I've seen some awesome stuff come from there.
So, I'm gonna try them, if the wide angle isn't for me, ill return it and save for an expensive fish ye.

If you just want to get out and shoot, and you dont have a lot of money to spend, why not just get a 50mm 1.8? Its a great lens and its around $90-110 depending where you go. Regardless of what you get later its a lens worth having.

Got one of those.
Nifty 50 and I love it.

I went and got a Canon wide angle to test it.

Read good things about it and sample shots I did were really good for ME so I am gonna test it for a week.

disagree, it has many uses, best is being a great starter lens for portraits especially on a cropped body
the 50mm prime teaches you to learn more, move around and frame your shot better, rather than just standing and zooming in or out

still limited
it doesnt teach you do shit, all the things you listed is learned from practice. having a zoom lens wouldnt mean that you dont need to find a good composition.
