Once you upgrade to full frame and have a 24-70 and a 135 or 70-200... You won't need anything else...

you will always "need" something else
i have the 24-70 70-200
but on my wish list is
135, 1.4 extender, 17-40 and then the 300mm f/4
in that order
obviously there are others but thats what i "need" in the next few months

The full frame part is going to be terrible for me if I do anything with sports after high school. If I do I'm definitely going to save up for a 1Ds, otherwise I suppose I'm just going to settle for a 5D II or III if it's out by the time I have the money.

Need and want are two largely different things. As an amateur photographer you can do pretty much everything with these two lenses.

get fullframe instead of lens, you'll get same result and save $800+ for lens you'll have no use for when you'll get FF anyways ;) 17-35 on crop is 25.6-56mm so by getting FF you'll get extra 1.6mm on widest side with 24-105

Uhmm.. I don't know about you, but a spare $2500 or $5000 isn't exactly easy to come by for a student without a job.

Yep, that's pretty much what I just said I was going to do.

I'm thinking of just getting the 24-70 then the 105 macro.

Whoops double post..

Because then I'm going after the 1Ds, which is $5000.

Gotcha. Sorry I was confused. I couldn't put together why doing sports was such a bad thing. I see now you're saying sports is bad because it "requires" you to get the more expensive body.

I shoot IRONMAN triathlons, Horse/ Chariot racing, and water polo games with a D7000. You don't need a $5000 body to shoot sports. You just need to have lenses with fast AF and you need to be good with your equipment.

Oh I'm well aware. I just would like the 10 FPS. I have been in so many situations where my frame rate stopped me from getting the perfect shot. There are also a number of things I would like to do, such as composites, that require the high frame rate.

The 7D would be great since it has the 8 FPS or whatever it is, however, it has the exact same sensor as my T2i.
