The only one Id hate would be cityscape, the closest city to me is an hour and a half away D:

Night shots
Macro
Bokeh

All Ive got atm.

Good ideas! I like the night shot idea, too. That is like.. one I'd seriously do! I love night shots.

why can't we do a theme more like... monochrome on black..

here are the specific details for those who need more specifics.

1) the photo must be properly exposed with no blown highlights and encompasses a wide tonal range and no filled in shadows.
2) the photo must be taken on a black background or one that is so dark it would be considered black even in different monochrome conversions.
3) the subject of the photo doesn't matter as long as the photo follows the rules above.
4) no pulling from archives. photo must be taken specifically for this contest.
5) oh and I almost forgot... no excessive post processing just to mask poor lighting or to not follow the guidelines...

I think what we need is a challenge to your skill and try to better your skills in photography by giving you specific guidelines to follow. I think this would also help with practicing proper lighting in a photo (not that many of you don't already know how to properly lgiht one so this should be fairly simple ;) )

that's my idea. let me know what you think.... it's a bit of a jump but I think it would help those who wish to get better like myself... I have several more ideas for anyone that is interested..

Because that is entirely too specific, and thats why theres complaints every month. The more open the theme, the more people that will join, the less people that will complain, imo.

but then people complain that it isn't specific enough and that people didn't follow the theme. I'm making this specific enough to be challenging but you're free to be as creative as you like with it. for example people like dream who wants to photograph flowers can take one of a rose with nice lighting on a black background. people who like shooting people can do a portrait on a dark background etc xan. the only specifics about it are in reference to lighting. the rest is all up the creativity. it is intended to challenge your photographic skills by emphasizing the importance of light in a photo. if the monochrome part scares people then we would do something more like a theme of hands and water where hands are the subject to be photographed but the photo must have water in it somehow. the details would emphasize the importance of creative use of light but can be done in color or black and white or whatever post processing suits you more and you can be as creative as you like with it.

Ive never seen that here, all I ever see is the theme being too specific, and then people dont agree with what someone shot for it, saying it doesnt follow it. You cannot interpret flowers, people, animals, the wrong way. I can see a ton of bitching coming from your first rule alone.

what that the photo must be properly exposed? if they complain about a photo being properly exposed then they have issues...
