Windows Movie Maker is OK for really fast, cheap edits. It's obviously nothing fancy but for home movies or whatever it's fine for cutting clips together. You just might have to go look for a free movie converter to convert it so movie maker can run it...I suspect there are free editors out there that are better, but I've never bothered because I don't take much video.
