OK, since I'm allowed to, I will post a wall of text.
I have a few random friends on facebook, and recently I asked them to help me evaluate my picture for the contest.
To do so, I sent them the picture and told them it was for a contest, and they had to guess which was the theme of the contest.
I think this is the best way to judje if a picture fits the theme, and this is how I evaluate them.
I will tell if this contest's pictures can pass "my test" or not.
Now enjoy my opinion about each photo. I'm not a pro so be careful with it.
Also, I'll be ninja and I'll comment my picture as well, so you guys won't understand which one it is

#1: I think I got the idea in the picture, a smiling beheaded guy. I like the idea and the short DoF spot on the head. The white background is a bit messy tho. Test passed.
#2: OK there are two pictures with monkeys. I must admit I like the other one more. This one has a good expression, but I don't like the light ghost in it, and it seems like a forced crop. Test passed.
#3: I like the expression, and it's technically good. I dislike the leash tho, and the background seems quite distracting. Test passed.
#4: Honestly, I love this picture, but it doesn't pass my test. I can't see "expressions" anywhere, maybe one of the drivers had to be looking at the camera, or have a different pose.
#5: Mmmh, nice picture, there's something strange with colors, but overall I like it. Unsure about the test, I'd say it passed it at 70%.
#6: Another sweet picture, very well done. But in my opinion it does not pass the test.
#7: I admit I consider it one of the best pictures, at least concerning the technical part. Passes the test, but loses a lot of points with me because I've seen way to many pictures of cats

#8: Passes the test, even tho it's not that impressive. I will speak out of the chorus, but I like the background a lot. IMHO loses a lot of points because it's out of focus. It had to be more spot on the eyes.
#9: Passes the test, and it passes it very well. Good expression on the face, and the body speaks too. I love the short DoF and the focus. Something's messy with the background, IMHO it had to be desaturated a bit to pull the subject out more.
#10: If I got the photographer's intentions, the subject here should be the kid, but somehow the adult stands out more. Dunno if it's more about the motion blur on the kid or the composition. Passes the test.
#11: Those eyes are enough to make the picture pass the test. I think that such a portrait definitely needs a better light source tho. And I keep being distracted by the shadows behind the head.
#12: Mmmh I quite like this one. But I think there's too much post editing. I can see the attempt to bring the watcher's eye on the subject by adding vignetting, but it ends up standing out too much. I think I'd prefer a more "straight out of camera" version. Passes the test.
#13: Something fails on the woman's face, motion blur or focus, I can't decide. But I love her expression, "hey dude, look what a young boy I got". Fits the theme perfectly IMO, even tho I don't think it's technically good.
#14: Very nice portrait. I'm not sure but I think the photographer forced those blue eyes too much with editing, am I right?

Anyway, it's an awesome portrait, really, but doesn't pass my test.
#15: Awesome portrait, I love the lights here and how it merges with the dark background. Very well done, but, like the one above, it doesn't pass my test.
