the 70-200mm´s lens hood is pretty much enough to protect your lens, due to it´s large size. I dont think you´ll need an UV filter for that lens.

I think I will get a filter anyways, for protection.

I bought this one: Hoya Pro1D Filter UV (0) - I wonder if I bought a crap one... it's so F-NG hard to tell???? The guy there said it was good that I didn't buy a cheap one for the lens I am putting it on, so it made me feel good about buying this one. I spose there's always better. I just wonder if I did bad by getting this?

A filter will always be a good investment. Worst case scenario, you can leave it on until you're about to actually shoot. Extra protection is lovely.

Sometimes the lens cap doesn't fit with each filter. Lens cap > filter.

in that case the filter is defective, it should have exactly same helix as the lens does, so the lens cap should fit it the same.
