I would like to get a DSLR soon.  I have been trying my best to research what to get, but with such a HUGE amount of options, I am still lost.

I plan to spend in roughly the $600 range, so use that as a budget (unless there is a HUGE performance jump if I go up to $100 more).

I want to be able to do nice enviorments with the lens I get.  Thats going to be my main focus to begin, then moving onto macros, and perhaps portraits.

So...

HELP!

EDIT: Obviously when moving onto macros and portraits I'll be getting new lens.  So....thats pretty irrelevant.

Well for 600 - 700 bucks you can probably get either a Canon T1i or a Nikon D90. Both are great and will probably be more than enough for everything you want to shoot.

You can't get a D90 for that. They cost 800 minimum body only.

Canada is one of the top 15 countries in the world!
"and how many countries are there?"
"at least 15"

Get a Canon. You'll end up thanking me when you die and you don't get auto-sent to hell.

Clearly, this guy does not know his father. Therefore, he likes Nikon.

Yet who is the one going through an identity crisis and uses a Nikon like everyday...? That feeling of not wanting to touch your camera is because now you know what is better for you. Hard to go back to your Canon trash.

Ok...

So since you guys weren't the most helpful, any chance you have some links to sites that I can read up on to learn about photography more?

Hey I was trying to help :p

If you want to read some reviews on equipment:
http://www.the-digital-picture.com/
http://www.dpreview.com/

If you are looking for tutorials and want to learn the basics:
http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials.htm
http://www.digital-photography-school.com/
http://photo.net/
http://www.luminous-landscape.com/index.shtml

I advice you to stay away from the forums because some of them can be quite biased. :D
