Once i settle down after buying my car early december.. I'll start saving for my 600L.

I've got a bigger gun ^_^

read my edit lol

So you are serious about the 600L :O
why not the 500L? It should be enough for shooting birds and other wildlife while being substantially lighter and a little bit cheaper :D

Seriously though while making money off the hobby is a good thing or at least it means you are getting some returns of the money you have invested but
I think the most common photographers out there are wedding photographers and I for one can not imagine myself being one lol. I am pretty sure it would
be just like working as a waiter or a bartender or even worse

I've joined a few local photography groups and i think some of the pros might actually take me as a second shooter/ assistant. I just need to quit my current job :O. I'll test the waters before i jump in with both feet.

And yeah, i'm serious about the 600L. I'm not going to buy new, i'll hunt for a good deal on FM or PoTN, once i get bored with it.. i can resell it for a minimal lost or maybe even a profit.

As for the 500L, i've play with it the other day.. I think i might want something slightly longer, i handheld it for a little bit that day. It's heavy but not that heavy, i can probably handle the 600L.

If not, nothing a few trips to the gym a week can't fix ;)

edit: and i'll probably have a gimbal head by then too ^^

Wow! That's great if you don't mind shooting weddings. Isn't it mainly a weekend job? so how come you have
to quit your current job?
I believe working as a freelancer might be an exciting job but I may need to go to school for that
Well as I said before the 500L is more than 3lb lighter and more than two grand cheaper which mean you
probably don't have to spend money to go to gym or look like the guy in the picture I posted earlier :D
It's really a win-win and if it's not long enough just slap on a 1.4X. Geez you were complaining about how
expensive the new 1.4X extender is I am sure a full year membership at a gym would probably cost just
as much and you may look like a douche afterward too :( :D
Well let's see what will happen in the next year or two maybe we both will end up looking like some crazy bum
walking around with 10 cameras with large white tubes attached :D

talking of weddings, i am quoting on being a photographer for an event (a companies 25th anniversary) good thing is i know the organiser so hav a good shot at landing the job.
if i do get it, then its time to buy a new lense
and having it in my portfolio will help for future events
i am also looking at assisting some of the pro's here on some of their shoots, just for the experience

I'm here to mess up the vote. I say Nikon. There's a reason why Nikkor glass is more expensive. Canon glass sucks. Everything Canon makes sucks! My Droid takes better photos than anything Canon can!

(Trying to be a Nikon zealot for Onepage) :)

Seriously though...

uh you do know it's not the crappy 18-55 kit lens but the EF-s 17-85 IS f4-5.6 USM which is roughly equal to the Nikon 18-105 VR lens being sold as kit for D90.

ah in this case i would go for the cannon with the lens 100%

Well this generated some unexpected discussion. Thanks for the info guys, I just need to pick up a cable so I can transfer pics from camera to computer, probably try and get that done today.
