I like #2 but there is a little something about either the focus or the movement...
You were shooting at 1/125? (not sure when I tried to look it up)..
You may want to try a faster speed and see if it works better, cause birds often have those little fast movements ..

My favorite one is the last one... The bird is so well camouflaged and it thinks you can't see it, as it blends nicely with the branches (even the line across the eye looks like a branch) and it makes it look almost 'ghostly' in that tree..
Nicely done :)

Well, a 600 ofc helps! But remember that nature photography needs patient, going closed to animals takes time and is not easy.
Your signature says 40D and 100-400 Canon, that is not bad mate.
I took this with a 70-200 f4 IS on a canon 40D.
Nature is not my field, I love it but I have not enough passion to stay 10 hours in the woods walking and waiting.

The second one was shot at 1/800th. :P And the group i went out to shoot with liked my last shot also, they love the composition of it. They described it as finding elmo?

Very nice shot you got there man! Those are rare ducks, over at this part of the world where i live... i don't ever see those species. I think ducks are somewhat different from small birds.. they don't tend to fly away unless you pose a threat to them.

I shot this bird with my 135L non-cropped :P I still got excuse for that 600L

haha the ducks here are so shy that I would probably need a 300L to get a close up shot of them :(
If you seriously want to get a super expensive telephoto lens I think the 500L is better at least it's quite a bit lighter than the 600L, 8.5lb vs almost 12lb!!
but have fun saving up for those :D

HA! You never know when you get to his age :D
maybe this style suits you better  jk ;)

edit:
how is your 100-400L doing when it comes to dust?
I have heard ppl calling it dust pump :D I am actually interested in getting a telephoto zoom and have seen ppl selling that lens used locally.

LOL. Is that stache shopped?

Mine has been pretty good with dust.. Maybe i just don't use it in a dusty enviroment? I'm looking thru the front element and i can't see any dust at all..

Will you be getting the 70-200mk2? I heard the mkii is just as good as teh 100-400 even when using a 2x extender.

I don't know. I saw it while browsing the FM forums :D

I really really don't know right now which telephoto lens I will get.
The really good ones are waaaaay too expensive. Right now I am
leaning towards either the 70-200 f2.8 II or the 200 f2 IS lol
but it's going to take awhile to save up for the later
Maybe I will just get the new 1.4X extender III for my 135L
as a temporary solution for use during the next summer while
saving up for the 200L IS...
or maybe something else only time will tell what I will decide lol

I honestly don't see why the new extender III cost double that of the II.

I'm satisfied with my II. Paired with the 135 = great combo.

200L IS is too short man! for that amount of money you can get a longer lens ;)

Wow! I don't even know the price of that new extender. So it's like 600 bucks for that thing???
Well if it's that much then I'd rather save that money for another lens lol unless it's absolutely fantastic

haha I am not really into shooting birds but I do occasionally need a fast telephoto. Something longer than the 135L and with IS
so it leaves either the two I mentioned. About extenders again I wonder how the 200 f2 IS will perform with the new extenders
Though I will keep an eye on the 300 f2.8L IS because of the future release of the new mark II version so hopefully it will become a bit cheaper lol
