Ok...
I looked on different tutorials for changing the background using Gimp, but nothing was simple for me to understand...

Let's say I have this background (I made this very fast and it's not too pretty, but it's a backgroud).
What I need to learn doing, is cut around the desired subject (kinda like the.ice did) and paste it on my self-made 'artistic' background.

I do not have anything but GIMP installed at the moment.

If someone can make me a very nice noob friendly tutorial for GIMP, I'm willing to throw some fg on it...

Example of 'artistic background' (don't laugh, it was my first attempt just to show an example...

You must adapt either your background or your subject's exposure, white balance, and contrast so that the image does not look 'photoshopped'

I guess this would have to be part of the 'tutorial' I'm looking for ;)

Here's another example of background that I could use for horse subject....
Ofc with practice I guess I could come up with something decent...
But I still don't know how to 'cut' and paste the subject of another photo...

I'd write one for you if you're willing to wait until Friday/Saturday (since I spend most of my day editing).

Too much detail and no focal point. Colors are misconstrued and over saturated. Everything just looks... dirty.

And don't forget the nasty ass halo artifacts that come with 99% of HDRs.

Could you show me an example of this halo you're talking about?
