ty

But I've seen the winners of previous years with different themes for the contests...
And wow they are REALLLLLY pro...
Even if the prizes are not exuberant, people who enter have incredible high quality stuff....

But I could really use that 500$ in photo gear...
I'm not doing it for the glory, I'm doing it so I can upgrade :p

But I already took a few more shots, thinking about light....
Too bad Flickr s being a dick about uploading on dial-up... :(
I can't show them till I go to work on Friday...

hmmm I can't wait :)

if I get any ideas (I'm not very creative) I'll let you know ^_^

Can you send us samples of previous winners? We may be able to give you an idea then. I don't know what your standards of 'pro' are. Are they at least better than anything posted here?

I don't have access to the previous winners on internet, they are framed and exposed...
And yes, they are better than anything I have seen.....
That is why I feel the step is high for little me....

I understand you're in dial up, but is there any way for you to find pictures online with likely quality? The reason I tell you this is because a photographer comrade of mine specializes in plant photography and he has won several awards. He comes from Canada. He may have even won the contest you're about to participate. He's a really great guy and he can perhaps give you some pointers through email.

I just want something to compare him with because maybe even he isn't good enough :D

The previous year, the contest topic was 'physical ativities' .. the year before was life, 'small and big' and some of the pictures were about birds and insects...
This year, the topic is Wild plants and trees....
And all the pictures must be taken in that specific area in Québec, Canada.. (Mont St-Hilaire)

The only way I could show you previous winners, would be but taking pictures of the pictures that are on the wall in the exposition center....

:p whatever
What kind of technique or methods do you use for shooting landscapes? Well other than HDR.
Is it really worth investing in a good GND filter?

Circular polarizer and ND filters with different stop ranges. You should always shoot landscapes with a polarizer.

I shoot HDR for the stop range, never for that ugly tone mapped look :P

Yeah, I do use a CPL filter on my Sigma 10-20 and occasionally using it on 24-70L since they both got 77mm filter thread.
So you don't use a GND filter for landscapes? I thought it would be very useful to get perfectly exposed skies and land.
haha I do hate this ugly tone mapped look too that's why I haven't really been shooting much HDR at all :p

@MotherOfTwo
I believe you will be very happy with this lens:

I got the L IS version of this. It's my favorite lens. Makes awesome portraits too!

I figure I can just take multiple images (4-5) and merge them together. I will get more stop range this way than by using filters :)

Ok another question regarding this photo contest...

I can enter providing actual prints, or a cd with the photo files on it...

ofc it is easier and cheaper to put my photo on cd, but i think if I print them, they can take a longer look at them, and even take a second look without inserting a cd in the computer...

What do you guys think?
And what size print whould I provide?

Thanks again

edit:
Woke up kinda late this morning and couldn't find my usb device to upload my latest pictures at work...
I promise I'll try my best to do all this tomorrow :p
