Cool mate, the 50D is a nice camera and should be a big improvement over the Xsi. Much more ergonomic!

I don't think it's the focus at fault here. Looks like shutter speed is the issue :/
Yeah, love it over the Xsi. After handling the 50D, the Xsi does indeed feel like a toy. I can shoot with my 50D without grip comfortably. Couldn't do the same with the rebel, the body is just too small.
And looking back on the EXIF datas.. i don't think shutter speed is the issue. Shots taken with the 50mm ƒ1.8. They were all 1/80th of a second or less with majority of them at 1/125th. Only one shot was taken at 1/60th of a second.
And with shots taken with the 100 ƒ2.8L Macro, i had H-IS turned on (good for 4 stops of IS) and i shot it with 1/80th sec :S
I dunno, i was laying flat on the floor most of the time with both of my elbows on the floor supporting the camera, so even if i do blow at handholding.. laying down flat in a stable position like that should somewhat eliminate camera shake?

A gloomy day is perfect

This is what I mean by using window light.

In order to utilise the soft, beautiful light that trickles through a window, the subject must be
standing next to the window
You can see a couple of examples in the horrible picture I drew in paint. You have side, profile lighting. Backlit stuff. And some fill with a reflector. There is plenty of light there available to comfortably shoot at ~400iso with a fast enough shutter speeds.
Thanks for the illustration man, i'll keep that in mind for my next shoot! I really need to pick up a cheap collapsible reflector for these types of stuff.
I wish his house was setup that way though. Window light only comes in from 1 side of the wall. Theres only 2 windows, one with which is blocked by the baby crib and the other is blocked by a love chair.
