If I take them to some place where they print digital pictures... do I have to ask about their ways of printing?
I understand that if I print them myself on some hom printer, the quality will probably be quite shitty....

Most places print with C-types, you'd have to look for a good pro-lab to get lightjet prints done though.

I don't have photoshop.....

I'm limited to Paint (and I don't know how to use 90% of it) ..

And regarding noise..
Would you consider that the pictures in this topic are low enough in noise or stil too much?

Is there a math equation I could do to find out the dpi with the size of the picture?

Just right click one of your photos, and look at the properties, it should be there. Otherwise email me a picture and I can find out for you.

lol ok... yes....

Ok this is probably going to take forever on my dial-up connection, but if I do it overnight I should have a link in the morning...

If I upload a picture on tinypic.com, not reducing it at all, would you guys be capable of telling me if I should invest in getting a big print out of it, and how big I could go to stay in a decent quality?

If you say that it will not be possible to know before hand, then I would bother uploading 2.5 Mb on a 28.8 dial-up connection
But if you can, yes I'll do it :D

That probably won't work.

I think I found it....
24 bits per pixel

That's pretty crappy if I compare to the standard 300 dpi you guys are talking about :(

Other thing...
When I look at my pictures as desktop on my 19 inch monitor, they look really good...
What I see on my monitor, can it be compared to what it would be on a print same size?

That's not it. It should be under horizontal and vertical resolution.

Nope, that's just the number of pixels.

If you can send me a picture via email I'll be able to tell for you.

your camera is 180 DPI

but i stand by: it should be fine for printing a 11.7" x 16.5" picture (if you want one that big!)

I opened a picture using Nero this time, and I found something saying 180 horizontal and 180 vertical, unit used: inches...
So that would make sense...

So the camera makes that 'density'?
Or does it depend what size picture I use?

I use the maximum MP on my camera because I can ALWAYS downsize the photo; I can never make it bigger. I have yet to try a big photo of my photos yet... 8 x 10 pictures turn out pretty awesome.

Mine range from 1 MB to like 4 or so. I guess it depends, I really don't know why some vary in size.

ok I haven't really read all the posts in this topic so I hope I am not repeating what someone has already posted lol.
I think in order to get a good large print of a photo you will need a good camera body which means most of those dslrs AND a good lens. I have seen 100% crop of pictures taken with those 18-55 kit lenses and they look really awful and not even those mid range lenses are good for large prints. Then again you can always TRY to make it look better in photoshop... :D

just had a quick google on this, and here's the result

Max Print Size Minimum MP Resolution
4 x 6″ 2 megapixels 1600 x 1200
5 x 7″ 3 megapixels 2048 x 1536
8 x1 0″ 5 megapixels 2560 x 1920
11 x 14″ 6 megapixels 2816 x 2112
16 x 20″ 8+ megapixels 3264 x 2468

so basically you will be able to print at this size but quality depends on shooting conditions, camera settings, general camera quality. If it looks fine on screen when you are viewing the picture 100% it should be ok to print!

hope this helps.
