Ok cool so:

Slides are expensive, but sharp - Low ASA so little grain but they don't give as much exposure wise.
Negatives are cheaper and more giving with the exposure and can be high ASA

And to get negatives to prints you basically shine a light through them then test to see which paper is the right exposure then once you've got that you run photo paper through?

Basically, yes. To test you run photo paper through though.

No prob.

To be honest though, if you want to get good advice on printing film, go to Bayeux in London and speak to their printers. They're fucking amazing guys. Also, Bayeux is probably the best printer in England.

Film has no pixels, so its impossible to say how meny mp film is, allso resolution varies on what iso film is, but 100 iso 35mm b&w film is around 20mp and 6x6 is around 60mp. Naturally this doesent really matter because even 10mp is enough for 50x70cm poster.

If you want to make prints yourself you need englarger machine, papers and chemicals.

I wouldnt say its sharper than digital, you can see difference in sharpness on different lenses with digital, even with really sharp lenses, so digital is able for better sharpness than the sharpest consumer lenses..

Advantages of film is that it looks cool, its more fun to shoot, it handles highlights and shadows way better than digital, dynamic range is way better and you really get much more out of suggesfull film shot than digital, dunno if its because its mostly just one shot you take or what but its definetly way more rewarding than digital, especially if you develop film and print them yourself.

It's also easier to backup, won't become obsolete as new digital standards arive, and just generally more fun.

Film is obsolete? Tell that to the professionals that are still using it.

Not meny pros actually use it enymore. For art photo pros its still used and some studios still use medium format film cameras, but mainly because digital medium format is so damn expensive and they dont offer that much more than film, especially for the price(30k+ is quite much for one camera for a small studio), but even they still use mostly digital 35mm cameras. Atleast goes like this in finland

I know a pro that's still shooting 35mm film, I think you have to know what sort of photography you're interested in. For sport and newspapers digital is the absolute king, but for art photography, anything goes.
