500d seems like it could really much better than 400d or 40d. with 500d you can get 12800 iso, with 400d, 1000d and 450d you can only get 1600 iso, 40d has 3200 iso. I dont think it will have as much noise as those cameras now sold at around 1600-3200 iso, because it can handle that 12800 iso even somehow. And that is really a big deal imo. Allso it has a dedicated iso button close to wheel like 40d. Screen looks really good on it, not that big of deal but its nice to have a good lcd screen especially if you like to shoot video. 40d is faster and easier to use, than 400d, 500d, 450d or 1000d, because it has a joystick for changing af points and a big wheel to change f-number and iso button like 500d.
the current 50D is only usable up to 3200, the Hi1 and 2 settings are for emergancy use only, says DPReview. Unless the 500D can ace the 50D, which would be unlikely i dont think the high ISO would be of much use. But when u purchase the 500D for the same price as a 50D, yes you are getting full HD video, but no advanced controls like the joystick, it also has only 1 cross point af point, unlike the 40/50D's 9 cross points. Not sure about build quality, but it is likely not to be much better than the 400/450's (or weather sealing?). If they get the price worked out to make it similar to the 450D then i think it will sell. But with 15mp its harder to control ISO and IQ.
So 500D vs 50D is like this, methinks:
-HD movie, vs High FPS
-No weather sealing and light body vs Weather sealed magnesium alloy body
Well i dunno, i might be wrong but this is how it looks to me.
oh and if you choose the 50D over the 500D, would you then be tempted to save x hundred pounds/dollars and get a 40D?....
