What's the price going to be on the 500D?
And do you have an exact date it's going to be released?
How long do you think it'd take for the prices to go down after it's release?

Not necessarily buy one, but going to look at the local RitzCamera store

Well I am kinda interested in getting that camera in the future because of it's ability to record HD video clips so I asked around and the price is around 1100 Canadian dollars with the crappy kit lens or one grand for the body only which means it cost just as much as an eos 40D lol.
The best way to buy a camera is just go to an actual camera store and look at the cameras and hold them in your hands.

Well I'm going to look at my local Ritz tomorrow, but I need atleast some guidelines to look for.
Like I never would have known the 1000D or w/e lacked alot of those functions.

Should I even go look at cameras tomorrow, or wait a month or whatever to get a camera after the 500D comes out?

Well it really depends on how much you need a camera. When I bought my first EOS 40D it was still quite expensive but I really wanted a better camera and wanted to get serious with photography. Now I think about it was probably one of the best decisions I have ever made because it made me want to go out and explore places instead of staying home and being lazy all the time lol. Well I am not sure if a new camera will have the same effect on you though :p

As i said, i think it is worth waiting for the 500D also because, as others have posted it will drop prices of other rebels. I would not consider purchasing the 500D, however. It is due to retail at a similar price to a 50D, which has double the FPS of the 500D (excluding HD) So you're going to have a choice between High FPS or HD movie. If you do not need HD movie, i think the 400D will be a fantastic camera for you.

500d seems like it could really much better than 400d or 40d. with 500d you can get 12800 iso, with 400d, 1000d and 450d you can only get 1600 iso, 40d has 3200 iso. I dont think it will have as much noise as those cameras now sold at around 1600-3200 iso, because it can handle that 12800 iso even somehow. And that is really a big deal imo. Allso it has a dedicated iso button close to wheel like 40d. Screen looks really good on it, not that big of deal but its nice to have a good lcd screen especially if you like to shoot video. 40d is faster and easier to use, than 400d, 500d, 450d or 1000d, because it has a joystick for changing af points and a big wheel to change f-number and iso button like 500d.

the current 50D is only usable up to 3200, the Hi1 and 2 settings are for emergancy use only, says DPReview. Unless the 500D can ace the 50D, which would be unlikely i dont think the high ISO would be of much use. But when u purchase the 500D for the same price as a 50D, yes you are getting full HD video, but no advanced controls like the joystick, it also has only 1 cross point af point, unlike the 40/50D's 9 cross points. Not sure about build quality, but it is likely not to be much better than the 400/450's (or weather sealing?). If they get the price worked out to make it similar to the 450D then i think it will sell. But with 15mp its harder to control ISO and IQ.

So 500D vs 50D is like this, methinks:
-HD movie, vs High FPS
-No weather sealing and light body vs Weather sealed magnesium alloy body

Well i dunno, i might be wrong but this is how it looks to me.

oh and if you choose the 50D over the 500D, would you then be tempted to save x hundred pounds/dollars and get a 40D?....

Damn, I was really hoping to get a camera either before I went to North Carolina or I went on my wild flower field trip for Environmental class :\
But if you guys think it's really worth it to wait then I guess I will

How long do you think it'll take for the prices to drop after the 500D is released?
And do you have a date when it;s coming out?
