hmm how is the 85 not suitable for outdoor photography!? its a mid tele lens on a cropped body so should be great for general outdoors/action.

Well I don't know... lol I normally associate outdoor photography with landscape/cityscape tongue.gif

Yes ^^ lol! What is the difference between these two, anyway? Just the F number?

if you don't mind me answering that question. I think the main difference is the better build and that the autofocus is so faster and much quieter on the 50mm f1.4 and of course the f number.

I found this comparison some time ago and I kinda find it quite interesting:

I am actually trying to figure out if I want to spend more than 400 bucks on the f/1.4 version or save some money by getting the f/1.8 since I probably won't use a 50mm whole a lot other than on my film camera and some close up low light pictures

I just want something cheap/fun/different to play around with. I was completely not willing to take photos in the winter, and I could have actually used this lens during the time... but I will get it for the cheap price it's at. Maybe my cat pictures could have turned out better without the flash xD

yeah! I know what you mean here. If you will only use that lens occasionally then it's absolutely not worth spending four times more to get the f1.4 version and that's also the reason why I am really hesitating in buying it.
Well winter isn't really a good time to take outdoor pictures but there are a few things you still could take pictures of. Like hoar frost or snow covered landscapes that is if the temperature isn't too low outside lol believe you don't wanna walk around when it's -30 outside and take pictures I have done that and will never do that again rolleyes.gif
