Don't buy memory cards on eebay. Needless to say, most of the cheap SanDisk CF/SD cards on eebay are fake. There are many guides on eebay on how to identify fake SanDisk memory cards, which is a telling enough sign. If you keep a close eye on Slickdeals, you can find great deals on name-brand CF cards as well. Just know that you're paying for the name and the purportedly higher-reliability of their products. FWIW, Lexar is generally accepted my most of the Pros I've talked to be the fastest and most reliable.

Batteries are a different story. Don't buy generics unless you have past experience with that particular seller. My XTi came with an extra generic battery and its max capacity is down to probably around 40% of the Canon battery. One thing I've noticed is that once your battery animation goes down a single bar, you're probably going to go out pretty soon, definitely less than the amount of time it took that first bar to go down.

External memory?

If you're asking whether the XT [and most DSLR for that matter] have internal memory to store images without a memory card, the answer is no.

haha I have to agree with you on the battery thing lol. Personally I would never buy a non Canon battery for my camera because I had this bad experience with batteries for my Motorola cellphone lol.

Well I don't think I will ever buy anything on eeeebay I mean buying stuff from online stores is one thing but eeeebay is where everybody is selling almost everything so you could never be too sure about the stuff you buy on there. Unless you want to try your luck of course. Well of course that's my opinion and I am sure a lot of people out there have successfully bought a lot of good and cheap stuff there. I don't know where you live, Brian_6905 but in Europe those CF cards are pretty cheap as I said you can get a 4gb Sandisk Extreme card for 35 bucks so there is no need to save a few bucks more just to buy some no-brand name cards.

hmm I have actually tried to take pictures without a memory card on my 40D and it actually works but I am not sure if it would transfer the image on to a computer and how many pictures it could take without a memory card lol.

Buying from eebay isn't all that bad, actually. You just have to thoroughly examine the seller and the time being sold. I've spent about $3000 in the past 6 months on eebay mainly on bike parts, but also on a Canon 100mm Macro. The lens was 1-2 years old but it was practically spotless with no dust, no scratches, no scuffing, and works perfectly without any focus/sharpness problems.

Just by reading the description and looking at the images, you get a good idea of whether the seller has the photography experience to even be in the position to sell the item they have. In addition, if you see that they've bought/sold any photography equipment in their history, it increases the likelihood that the transaction is legitimate.

Yes, eebay has bad eggs (moreso than other methods of purchase), but the vast majority of transactions are legitimate and go through smoothly. Its not for everyone because of the time investment needed to find the fair market value of an item to see if you're getting a good deal, as well as the time needed to vet the seller, but you can find amazing deals on items you otherwise would not be able to afford.

Of course, the fact that people are afraid of using eebay works in the favor of people like me since less competition = lower prices. smile.gif

I would pay a bit more for the Elite 133x version of the Kingston 4 GB. It's less than a dollar more and you get 20MB/sec instead of 10MB/sec theoretically, which will help with transfer and burst speeds so you don't end up waiting on the memory card to write to take more shots.

Well I kinda want to get another one too but the battery for my camera is freaking expensive. It's 135 bucks plus tax -.- but I will probably need another one during the summer though lol. hmm I think it takes around 20-30 minutes to charge mine depends on how depleted it is lol.
I don't really think that you will need three if you don't plan to go hiking for like 3 weeks and you plan on taking more than 1000 pictures lol. In that case you may want to buy a battery grip too or an accessory pack for your camera which includes a battery grip and an extra battery that is if you can find one for your camera.

What battery does yours take? I only bought mine for 70 bucks.... could have spent 100 if I wanted the "canon" one, but the non-canon had 2 year warranty, and it was WAY cheaper. The battery has done pretty good for me so far.

I do plan to buy a battery grip once I get my tax back xD
