Yeah honestly i am the kind that stays sober at parties.  I am 22 so yeah they parties i go to do ocasionally get out of hand but more often than not they are a bunch of friends sitting around playing cards or something.

I will look into these other cameras, thanks again for the input guys/girls.

lol thats great. Sometimes its more fun stay sober than get drunk and make an idiot of yourself lol especially if you have a camera you can just take pics of friends while they are making fool of themselves lol Well I guess I kinda got tired of getting drunk and all that course ive done that a few times in the past so after awhile I decided to stay sober at parties lol but let me tell you a secret I am the kind of people who could be easily convinced by friends to start drinking and when that happens it usually ends up with me getting drunk and throw up in the toilet. anyway I think you should get a dslr IF you want to get serious with photography and get a cheap point and shoot as a backup camera. The EOS 400D/XTI is an excellent camera and its quite cheap too so you can probably afford it plus a cheap point and shoot smile.gif

I'm not worried about it being too cheap. I mean i don't want a 2000 dollar camera either. I just want one thats under a grand and will take nice higher def photos.

eos 400D with a decent lens cost well under 800 dollars and it performs a lot better than any point and shoot I have heard or seen especially when it comes to high ISO performance you can probably use up to ISO 800 or 1000 without getting too much noise. I believe good high ISO performance is very important if you want to take pics at parties or concerts course you dont want to bring a tripod with you and you may want to use a fast shutterspeed, therefore high ISO, if you dont want your friends look like a bunch of motion blur in your pics

in my opinion get a 400D and a nice lens

or you could get a 1000D and a nice lens (1000D is a baby 400D, which is a little more user friendly (has live view, so good for compact users) but a few nice features downgraded from 400D)

dslr is allways a dslr, you cant compare it to some point and shoot. If you want quality and controls get a dslr, thats the only choise, if ur happy with taking pics with crappy flash all the time get some point and shoot. I dont see eny point of paying that much for a point and shoot what that DMC-LX3 costs, since if you dont care about the quality so much you can get enough quality from much cheaper cameras.
