can i ask why you rate something that isnt interesting in any way with nearly half points? i dont really get how people usually rate these pics, at the times it seems like people are nearly saying that something is complete crap and still rating 8/10..

Since no one in JSP is excessively skilled, I rate largely on originality and creativity. I've rated 8/10 shots that normally would be 2/10 because of technicalities. To each his own opinion, right? You're a much better photographer than I am. I ratd it 4/10 because it's technically well exposed, composed decently. I prefer some of your other work though.

I know my stuff isn't even 20% as good as some of the members here, but I try to make my commentary as blunt and as honest as possible.

then may I have your opinion on the photos I took of the child?

I think everyone here is overconfident, and everyone doesnt take cnc very well (Im not omitting myself from that either) but its better to be criticized and get your ego bruised for a minute than have people telling you somethings better than it is.

I agree, I personally love harsh c&c. Now I don't consider myself good in anyway but I have come a long way since I first started an year ago. If it wasn't for the harsh c&c that I've received, I wouldn't be anywhere close to where I am today. I like it for others to tell me what's wrong with my shot and how I can improve whether then kissing ass.

Yeh, exactly. Thats how it is over in gd, and I improved rather quickly when it came to tagging (much different field but cnc is cnc xD)

I just dont get why some people hold back for certain people here, unless theyre afraid of hurting their feelings or something. Ill just see people rave over a random shot and wonder what the big deal is.

I don't know which photo to rate, so I'll just post a new one :)

I know it's far from perfect, I'll be buying a new camera around christmas, either d90 / d300(s) / d7000 :)
That will work around the noise.

This is actually one of my first bird pictures I'm not ashamed of. Decent weather + sigma 120-400 :)

Oh btw, I'm glad I often get harsch cnc, I need it :)

I really like the light and the composition isn't bad and I like the colors overall but I'm not sure whether it's out of focus or why the bird is so blurry... maybe it's just me? :/ 6/10

Unless you're sporting a square format camera, I really dislike the crop. Composition is'nt favorable imo.
