Does anyone have experience in generic battery grips? I would like one, but I don't want to pay as much for a Canon, maybe there's a different brand? Is it worth it? Or stick with the brand of your camera?

Had it on my d300s, have it on my 5d mark ii now.
I love it.

Don't know about non original ones though.

I bought a third party grip for around $40 versus the $150 or whatever the Canon version is.

The only cons to it so far, the two free batteries that came with it don't sit in the charges quiet right, so you have to fiddle them into it for them to start charging.

Well, one of the batteries I got was like that.

i cant believe you will use a 3rd party grip and batteries instead of the original
yet you wouldnt do the same regarding speedlites
this makes no sense, the 3rd party grips and batteries are far more likely to harm your camera than a flash is
and to add to it you arent saving as much $$$

Why?

I am looking for one on my xti - I am more so looking for the sideways grip more than the battery part.

Battery's that are exactly the same voltage as a standard battery, and a grip that attaches to the camera the same as a normal battery can not harm the camera unless you are stupid and decide to get it wet or otherwise abuse the equipment.

Even if the wires inside the grip are a little scary or something, it doesn't take a genius to insulate a wire. Nor does it take a genius to read reviews and find a good third party grip.

And I would do it with speed lights, I have done it with speed lights.. I just said stay away from Yongnuo because they have a bad reputation of failing.

I can't believe you would make such an assumption with absolutely no evidence.

those photos arent really too hard to take. you can see that he used the early morning or sunset light in most of em. what makes em look good is the actual series he shoots.

by the way, I tried out the 35mm 1.4 L today. Pretty sick lens as it seems.
