Imo soft box > umbrella. You can make a pretty effective studio with 2 strobes like the 580 or 430, manual the power, and use some yongnou transceivers, + softbox.

yes but umbrellas cost next to nothing and they will help when you need to get light to spread in more wider area, so why not get some umbrellas also?

iono man I prefer softboxes. Umbrellas are so last decade

IMO ab800s with a huge octobanks and two umbrellas and softboxes on c-stands.

Add 2 reflectors and you got yourself a sexy setup. And a few accessories likes snoots/ grids and beauty dishes.
