Maybe get the twin lens option, then sell the 24-105mm and 40mm for a 24-70 if that's what you really want.

Or just wait it out because I think canon has a patent for an IS version last I read.

After doing lots of thinking, if I do get the camera, the 28-105 makes the most sense. It would be at least a year before I would afford a 70-200mm to add to the list, and I don't even know if I need that zoom. And if I did (and 200mm was the farthest I needed), I'd just get the 70-200, and then switch out the 28-105 later after that for a 28-70 option.

The 40mm lens just provides me with a prime to play with and get a feel for primes. I'm thinking an 85mm prime or something along those lines on an FF body might be something else I might want to look at... or maybe a 135mm prime... not sure? But if I get the camera, additional lenses are things I absolutely can't tempt myself with for quite some time!!!

Now I really need to think about practicality of the camera. I've been so serious about getting it (I was 15 minutes short from picking it up today!), and I think tomorrow I won't be able to hold myself back... but tonight I feel like thinking things over. I'm usually impulsive by day, and I think harder at night.

I do like the way you approach things: Just buy it. Just do it. Just get it. xD

Blog-style: I'm going to give it another 24 hours. Yesterday I was 99.9% sure that I wanted to get the 6D. Today I'm 50% sure. I want to capture good photos and learn photography, but I'm considering waiting a full year to two years, and in the mean-time enjoying my cash and making due with cheaper photography tools such as my S4. However, making due feels like a MAJOR compromise, as if I'm missing out on a lot.

could always get a second hand camera and just play with it, if youre going to just learn and possibly not even continue with it mind as well get a cheapo instead of spending 2k

you could buy an old film camera and learn from that for year; wont cost more than 75 for the camera, some lenses, and film.

For my purposes, if I'm taking photos, I'd want to have them digitally.

I enjoy editing photos in photoshop and other editing software as well, sharing, etc.

I know I'd definitely continue with it. My thought-process and worries are this:
1) My budget & the fact that I always go all-out (and I'll want to get that 70-200mm lens, 10-30mm lens, etc) // price is big
2) My family/gf guilt tripping me
3) Technology -- I keep hearing "2014 will be the year for mirrorless" and stuff like that -- wondering how ISO, AF, megapixel, contrast, etc... all that will improve with mirrorless tech... wondering how quickly a DSLR purchase now would deteriorate in usefulness. However, I pit that against the fact that the camera isn't a purchase for a camera (not entirely), it's a purchase to be able to take photos, and I can't do that without the camera.

I mean, here's my current camera (Samsung Galaxy S4). These photos are some of the better ones I've gotten, but I don't take pictures with it too often... and when I do, it's quick ones with my gf, so I'm not trying to frame things much (I just pick up the phone and snap). Cropped/resized, but nothing else. Most of the photos I've put effort into framing and setting nicely are of my gf, which I won't upload right now.

I feel like I'm limited with my camera... Yes, I could take better photos, of course... but still, limited.

I'm still considering the 6D... but what are my cheaper options? The Nikon D5200 looks quite nice, and then there are mirrorless options.

I'm trying to look at my $800 options, $1200 options... anything over $1200 seems to warrant the $2480 purchase though, since (even though it's double) it's already in a high price range at that point and deserves the bump up.

Spam:

Thinking about this:

Nikon D5200 + 18-55mm VR lens - $800
55-200mm lens - $260
35mm prime lens - $200

Total: $1260 versus the D6 cost of $2480

So 50% the cost, and the performance seems good. I'd have a prime lens at a good focal length, and a larger zoom range.

For a beginner, maybe this is a good route to start with for the next couple years?

The 6D is still on the table, but I'm thinking this through.

this will always be the case, the next year will always be better

I bought the Canon 5D II a couple years ago, yeah I would love the 5D III but my camera is more than enough and does all I need (ofc need and want are 2 totally different things)

is the D7000 out of the price range? it truly is an amazing cropped sensor camera
although the D5200 in fact any entry lvl DSLR atm is great
