Just get it mate, you won't know yourself when you do and you can't go wrong with that kit.

Alright. The only two things stopping me now are:
1) Got to convince the gf not to freak out at me for two reasons. One, for spending so much cash. Two, because she just got a $650 camera (she doesn't want to buy any extra lenses for it), and I'd be showing her up.
2) I still haven't sold anything. Deciding on whether to sell some of my dumbbells (I have about $800 worth of freeweight dumbbells, and I could just stick to my adjustable ones instead which serve the same purpose)... or my iPad 3... and/or my laptop.

I'm sitting here with cash in hand (half-literally) ready to go pick this camera up though. I found a bundle at Futureshop for $2400 that comes with an extra battery, a carrying case (wouldn't use the case), and a strap (no idea what kind of strap). Mainly it's just an extra battery with the kit. And of course it comes with the 24-105mm lens as well.

1) [B]Fair enough, no man wants that on their shoulders. Dumb reason ha
2) Man you have a lot of shit haha Small attention span perhaps?

You've made up your mind mate, what are you really worried about? I know it's a pretty big pile of cash to blow for something you're unsure of but worse case scenario is that you get bored of it, sell it and count your losses.

Haha well I do work out, I just don't need a full set of db's + my adjustables. Same thing with everything else... I use the stuff, but I don't necessarily need everything. I picked up a $2000+ set of stereo speakers, a new piano, etc, last year... so I like new stuff. Anything I don't use, I tend to sell. I don't sell often anymore. xD

The camera really wouldn't be something I would resell. I can tell when something is impulse versus something that I will grow with. The camera is both.

Just got to talk to the gf to get her blessings hahaha... I have to make sure she doesn't feel bad about her camera purchase if I get a better one (since she might -- and I'm not sure -- view herself as the photographer for when we go out). How I'd like to view it is we could get into it together (her camera is nice, she can pick up other lenses for it, etc... Nikon 1 J3... it can do what she wants).

Could I get an explanation from someone about the AF points on the Canon 6D? I've heard this is its one short-coming.

It seems like the Nikon D600 is what I'd prefer to go with, except its build-quality issues are something that completely cross it off the list. The lens selection with Canon also seems to be a little nicer.

I'm on the path to selling something and picking up the Canon 6D, but I want to make sure the AF points aren't a deal-breaker?

I'm so close to buying now, despite not having sold any of my own stuff hahaha...

What's holding me back is this one question: Is there any foreseeable price-to-performance improvement over the next year? As in, could there be a huge shift in the camera bodies & the performance?

The other thing that's holding me back is this: Is there any reason I should hold off from the 6D that anyone can think of? The comparable Nikon D600 isn't something that I want due to build quality issues/upkeep (sadly).

I'm thinking about picking it up this weekend. I found a price at $2350 Canadian ($50 discount) for the camera + lens kit... or I could go for $2400 for the camera + lens kit + carrying case + strap + extra battery.

Spending all my summer-job earnings before I've even worked through the summer. But I think I'd have a lot of fun. Just giving it a few more days of thought, and carefully getting various peoples' opinions and input.

i think most zoom lenses will have some sort of distortion at the wider ends.

dont know anything specific about that certain one though, is it the 24-105 f/4 L?

Canon EF 24-105mm F/4L IS USM

I've heard it being criticized as worse than the 24-70mm. But I'm just trying to figure things out. I'd have to shell out $600 extra to get a 24-70mm instead... :-/
