Your screen is shit and not calibrated.

You will never get accurate prints with what you have.

Don't waste all that money on glass.

Buy the Dell u2410 and the Spyder pro.

Thank you all :3

I will be getting the pro. Sucks because I just made the $100 I needed for the express, now I gotta wait for $60 more in sales before I can get anything, but ah well

I really dont feel like Im wasting money on glass. I have ONE lens, the 50mm 1.8. I am in serious need of an upgrade. I want to be able to look at my photos and say THATS what tack sharp is!

Im looking at the newegg monitor that was posted, it seems nice. Plus at that price we can get two. Lith, maybe once I have the sort of clientele that you do I can get all the uber expensive shit, but at the moment Im still just a struggling artist

Just wanted to say I just got a set of proofs in from WHCC, they look perfect! So glad they sent out test prints so I could adjust accordingly. So at least I know I can print through one lab until I get my stuff calibrated

Preview for fb (yes she requested that I get the snowglobe one with the proofs, haha):

Before you buy anything.

Check your color profiles!
Photoshop / Lightroom use other ColorManagement than your Computer itself. Check in which Color-Space you take your pictures (sRGB / Adobe RGB). Tutorials how to configure your application right can be found all over the internet.
Even pictures on the internet are being read differently by any browser. There are some with color-management and some without.

Maybe get a test print and compare!

When your screen is just a little of, use your on screen settings. If your screen is very off get a spyder!
If you have the budget, get a spyder, screen, and a book about color management and do it the right way!

Btw. just google for tuts... i cant remember what to configure but there is a profil for monitor color which is not equal to a certain color-space being used. But usually it is like that:

sRGB for web and usual prints
Adobe RGB für processing pictures for a larger print, - even convert that to CYMK and export this as PDF and print it.

Resaults may vary depending on what you want / need.

---

anyway. Good monitor != good color if not calibrated correctly!
And even if calibrated correctly (which is always relative to what you wanna do):
For Printing you may want to calibrate the monitor according to your printer, for web you may want to calibrate your monitor for true colors.

please spend your money.

Don't buy two cheap ones.. buy one good one and use your old one as a second monitor. It's not uber expensive, it's actually one of the cheapest/best price ratio monitors. Eizos and NEC are expensive lol

You don't need to dump 2k on lenses if you are smart with your choices ;)

Okay..so if I were to get the insanely expensive (to me) monitor, that would rule out the 70-200 2.8. So give me some suggestions for that monitor + glass..I guess under or around 2k total. I know that pp and color management is important..thats why I looked into calibration in the first place..I just didnt realize what all went into it. Sticker shock, I guess.

The u2410 is ~$450 on amazon.

The Spyder 4 Pro is ~$150 on amazon.

That leaves you ~$1400 for glass.

Are you interested in over or under the 50mm focal length?

Does it have to be white? :P

Im getting the Spyder 4 Pro asap, that wont be at tax time so it doesnt need to be taken out.

Over, Id like to get a zoom, but if theres room Id like to get a fixed too (but if I do, it will be the 85mm 1.8 or the rokinon 85mm 1.4).

I so want a white lens, haha. It must be the girl in me, I just squee over them.
