OP: Try not using the flash. Adjust your ISO and Aperture and use more natural lighting, especially if shooting that close. I take self portraits a lot and natural light makes a HUGE difference. If using a tripod, manual focus helps a lot.

Usually the switch is on the lens to switch from autofocus to manual focus.

No flash was used, it was just way too exposed. I'll try again when it will be a sunny day!

yeah u can tell it was not flash but a ceiling light
you need to get it to point focus, you can then select the actual focus point (ie centre, top, bottom left corner etc) what camera u using, if some1 has a similar model they can point u to the right place in the menu
