since your camera is small... and the lens is ... well yeah, works.. you should keep the lens. but you should get addiditonal lenses. and if you plan on upgrading to full frame ( the 5d / mk II / mk III are) you need awesomeeee glass.
Otherwise you sacrifice quality by using bad glas.

So here is what i think.

Keep the Camera.

Get some additional lenses, choices money / value are:

17-40mm 4.0
24-70 2.8 I ( the "old" one - maybe used)
85mm 1.8
100mm 2.0 (that one is totally awesome and underrated)
the 70-200 4.0 (without is) very underrated and very good quality! and cheap
I guess i am missing some here, but these are "cheap" underrated lenses and dont come far after thair older more expensive, but well yeah, better brothers ;-)

Still. you should be able to get each of these for less than -- 800€ ($)

I would have suggested a tamron 17-50 2.8 which is an awesome lens and in addition a 85 or 100mm but since you plan on upgrading to full frame,... at least the 17-50 would have been quite useless...

get 5d and upgrade/add lenses when you can, i use a standard zoom lens for 80% of my photos.
