if you have that much spare cash buy a leica m6, a voigtlander nokton 50mm f1.1, a dozen rolls of ilford hp5 iso 400, a dozen rolls of fuji velvia iso 50 or iso 100, and a dozen rolls of kodak ektar iso 100

You really have no clue what you are buying.. The 7D is a very nice camera for high speed sport photography, for exemple...
Unless your food moves at an incredible speed or tries to run away, you don't need the 7D.
If your food stays in your plate and is already dead, go for this or something similar:
Canon EOS Rebel T2i 18.0MP DSLR Camera With 18-55mm IS Lens Kit

And leica is not random.
I use Canon but I don't have the funding to use a Leica.... it's too awesome for my pay check...
