firmware is the software that runs on your hardware (the camera) it controls the mechanics and brings the light to the sd-card.

and y i thought i could do that without hacking :)

y such things. hdr by default is made by only 3 images on the prosumer-class. ... and many more where the firmware is the point takeing your ideas to a limit

yup, that's what I use it for. I use anywhere from 5-9 exposures with magic lantern.
