ok- i'm not 100% familiar with Canadian law, but for the U.S:
you are free to go to a public event and take pictures and sell them on your own and for your own profit unless:
you were comissioned to do so
the event location specifies your inability to do so. This can't just be some random clause in a hidden policy on their website. There must be evident and reasonable attempts to inform people of this prohibition- which should likely include banners or security guards during the event.
the subject you are shooting is illegal
since neither of these 3 apply, they cannot 1) do anything to you, regardless of whether you make private sales or not - and 2) continue to coerce you in such a manner that you may take it as a threat. Write an email asking them to stop their threads. If they continue, write a certified letter. If they insist, ignore them or take legal action
