Film is more future proof than any digital format images, Scanning technology will always develop and be backwards compatable - film resolutions will only improve, however images stored digital will be lost after estimated 10 years from any hard drive (as thats their average life) and will always have a pixel restraint. Also the file formats will be different in the future and cause compatability issues. film will also always be their in its highest available quality. as soon as you convert from raw you lose info.
Anything filmed digital can never be improved quality wise. however they are producing blue ray quality versions of films from the 70's 80's 90's because of the fact they were filmed on high quality film with proves the value of film.
Expensive processing can be erased by self processing. black and white is easy to develop and color rolls can be done from certain places from as litle a 99p per roll.
Film will also allow you a larger format at a fraction of th cost - improving upon IQ and higher resolutions!
You can also get tiny bodies Like contax rangefinders, leica M's, and others - that opticaly are better than any digital SLR and cheaper!
Any body serious about Photography (and i don't mean professionally - as the only option is Digital) film is the way to go.
Edit:
I would go for the 7d if you class yourself as a photographer Or either of the others if you would call yourself a film maker.
film does degrade over time, and even faster if not stored correctly, i would love to see you storing 10years worth of film photos correctly, you gonna need a rather large amount of space
how much space does that take up digitally? almost nothing!!!
yeah film quality / scans will constantly improve over time but:
1 - more and more consumables for film are being taken off the self due to lack of sales, this is only going to get worse till there is almost nothing available, this will spread to scanners as well where you will eventually only have a very limited selection at exorbitant prices
2 - same with labs, they are getting more scarce
3 - even the available pixels now days are overkill and it wont take long for 50MP to be the norm, what would we ever need to print that would require more?
