50mm
you will learn alot more when using it

This :)

Also for the price/quality, you are better off with the 50 mm!
It is a very cheap lens and an all around lens as well!
It is the first (and only one so far) that I have purchased other than the kit lens that came with the camera, and I loved the improvement it made for me!

I'd go for the w/e-300... Assuming your kit lens is 18-55... Buying a lens that covers a focal length you already have is quite silly. You will get more use out of a more versatile lens. That is obviously the zoom. However, I do not think it is the better lens. Better for you, yes.

I have a 18 - 55mm and a 50mm but I use 50mm all the time I never use my kit lens. The 50mm is more fun to use for me but thats just my opinion, I have yet to find a point where I need a zoom lens.

All focal ranges should be covered before primes should be purchased. Yes, primes are awesome. You haven't found a point where you need a telephoto because you don't have one. You simply don't know what use you can get out of one. I'm not hating on the 50. I have two 50 1.4s that I adore, one of them doesn't get taken off of my alternate body. The lens that I have on my main body is my 80-200 2.8, there is a reason why it's my main.

you should first decide what would you take pics of more. landscape or portraits.

Also f/1.8 helps aswell in low light.

So does a slow shutter, higher iso, and a tripod.

higher iso + slow shutter will not help me in a portrait enlargement where quality matters. tripod won't help me in a wedding. umad?

Shut up. You said 70-300 as well.

Edit. Plus you don't count.
