vr is only for stationary. It makes me laugh at those who argued for a 24-105 F4 > 24-70 2.8 because it has IS rofl.

I wouldn't use VR in that shooting scenario. VR would semi negate the whole shooting at slower shutter speeds to achieve motion blur. VR is more for shooting something that is stationary.

^this

makes total sense. thank you :)

And i will take a larger aperture any day over IS

A lot of good information here I appreciate it all. Any ideas on lens? I have a 50 AF f/2.8 and a 35 AF-S f/2.8 in my bag for car shows and such that I use when I go out on the track if I can get close enough, but generally end up shooting at around 135 mm with crop idk what that is(200ish?).

80-200 f/2.8 in my price range Probably what I'm going to look at unless someone has suggestions. <- never mind won't AF with my camera.

I do some editing today to try and make them look a little more in motion just simply blurring it up trying to simulate the effects panning will give.

Thanks all

Are you high? Any AF-S lens will work with autofocus with your body. Google Nikkor 80-200 2.8 AF-S. Its slightly more expensive than the AF-D.

Also, you're editing just made the photo look blurry. Blurry =/= motion blur. The look isn't the same, with motion blur you get the sense of movement.

Found out about a drifting event really late last night, went out to try and practice some of the panning, above about the only ok shot I got unfortunately got way to dark for my lens.

Citizen not like I can go back and shoot those pictures simply trying to make them look a little better, and as far as the AF-S when I was looking didn't find it since it's not made anymore gotta find it used.
