18 is plenty wide for that. 80-200 is perfect for 1/2 body, 1/4 body, and face only type shots in smaller areas. It's also perfect for shooting outdoor portraits as you can be much further away and get much more natural posing. I HIGHLY suggest saving up and getting this lens. You won't regret it.

Cant find it anywhere.. not even used.. but as an alternative Im thinking about getting the sigma 70-200mm 2.8 II HSM etc etc.. without the OS (makes it twice as expensive) .. could that be used ?
Oh and btw.. do DX lenses compensate for the cropped sensor? ie is my DX kit lens 18-55 really something like 27-82.5mm ? Sry for all these questions but im a noob :D

DX lenses are for cropper bodies. So the 18 is 18. I'd even check eebay for the Nikon 80-200 ED. The sigma will work as its that exact range you are looking for. But as far as lens quality I'm not sure, I only have Nikon glass. I'm pretty sure Kratos has the sigma 70-200 2.8 only Canon mount. Maybe try and get his two cents on that lens.

Okay so now im down to this.

I can buy the 50mm 1.8G now just to have some better glass to play with AND then save up for EITHER sigma 50-150mm or 70-200mm

OR I can just wait and get one of the 2.8's a bit earlier ?
Im not quite sure which to chose (50-150 vs 70-200) since the bokeh on the 50-150 seems a bit more distracting than on the 70-200 + overall IQ on 70-200 seems better
BUT the 50-150 is smaller and on my cropped sensor the range fits my needs better.. + the 70-200mm can seem rather intimidating especially on a small body such as my d3100 :o

(again I will be needing it for portraits mostly)

Any suggestions out there? ^^

/e oh and the prices ofc. 50-150 ~ 1000$ , 70-200 ~ 1050$ in Denmark (where I live) - I can buy the 70-200 in Germany for around 200$ less though (transport or shipping ~ 100$)

Can't really find any of these lenses on any of the larger danish websites for used or 2nd hand items

Save and get the 70-200 first. You'll get far more use out of it. Once you have that then get your prime. When getting the prime I'd even consider saving a bit longer and getting the 1.4...

if you are using the 70-200 or 50-150 for portraits i wouldn't buy either

i would probably buy a 105mm macro nikkor prime, sharper and macro for other purposes like product photography

hm guess thats an option as well..my main concern is still if I rly need any of those 3 lenses since Im mainly gonna be shooting stuff inside.. ie nightclubs. (limited space to move around).. also gonna be shooting stuff at festivals during this summer tho..
the 70-200 has a macro feature as well i think..

I dont rly know how much sharpness and IQ really matters to me since I mainly gonna be posting my pictúres on facebook.. Ofc its still important but dno HOW important.. I also ALWAYS use lightroom/photoshop for every photo I take..

Buy a Sony 15-500 if IQ isn't important to you.

There is a 50 MM 1.8 with AF-S coming out very soon from Nikon. I have the 35 MM 1.8 I love it and I'm going to get a 50 MM 1.8 in the old style so I can use BR-2A adapter and have a macro lens as well.
