ty sooo much for that info.

ive been looking at a few and doing some research.

sony a390 14.2MP $500

cannon eos digital rebel 10.1 MP $550

cannon eos digital rebel T1 15.1 MP $750

nikon 12.3 MP D5000 $750

(ALL PRICES FROM BESTBUY)

i guess ill try to find a decent body for about 5-700 and spend the rest on a macro lens.

p.s. should i just buy the body of the camera?like the ones that dont come with a lens and just buy a macro lens seperatly?whats the max distance for good pictures with a macro lens?

max distance?

it will work as a normal lens too.

but it will focus from around a foot away for clear sharp "close ups"

stay away from sony too :)

Edit: not because they are poor, just because canon and nikon are far more established

Canon: superior IQ, less expensive lens that are often superior.

disagree
Nikon's entry lvl DSLR's are superior imo, and better value for money
then get a 3rd party macro lens

if you are not going to get into serious photography and really only want it to photograph your knives etc then any would do for you, even the basic D3000
it is more important to invest more money in a decent macro lens - i cant really recommend one as i have not done much macro or tried many macro lenses
but i would suggest maybe starting with a 50mm f/1.8 nikkor, although its not macro i think it will suite your needs perfectly and it is rather cheap
