I mainly cropped it the way I did because you could see the white cloth [that I used underneath to cover the stand].
It was lit up and annoying

Threw off the whole "glowing pieces" look.

great pic, but if I saw it somewhere else I wouldn't like it because I thought it would be animated. I know it's not, but it just doesn't look real somehow.

Yeah I see where you could think it was animated.
I think the main reason why it looks that way is because the "white" pieces are soft/powdered glass, so the light makes it look computer generated almost.
