Mirror Lock up is a setting available on the camera where it flips the mirror up before the shot so it prevents mirror vibration ruining your shot.

Shotting something like the moon will need all the stabilization it can get.

Interesting. How do you achieve this? I've never heard of it before.

No, it's easy. I put it so that when I press the center select button it goes into live mode/mirror lock for tripod shooting.

she is using 400d, that model doesent have a live view, and as far as i remember it doesent go into mirror lock up mode from that button either. you can find the mirror lock up somewhere in the menu, shouldnt be too hard to find

It's custom function 7.

So just enable that in the menu to get MLU.

Just remember to turn it off when you're done though.

So once I have enabled it, I am ready to take a picture? And I spose I do this after I've set up my camera & the composition? What then? Just press the shutter? I tried it sort of but I don't get how it works.

Compose like you normally would and then press the shutter via a remote.

The mirror will flip up and you won't see anything on the viewfinder.

Wait a couple of seconds of the vibrations from the mirror to dampen and then press the shutter again. That will take the image.

Thanks for the help :)
