Just remember 24mm on a full frame gives you the same field of view as a 15mm on your Rebel.
If you want a true landscape lens get the Samyang 14 f2.8. It's almost half the price of a 17-40L and much sharper and less flare prone the only downside is it's a manual focus lens but who would need AF in such wide lens anyway.

well yeah....... not sure if that´s enough to replace an ultra wide angle lens tho. anyways, my priorities are on portraits atm. So I guess I´ll go for the 5D along with some primes and later on some zooms. I gotta build my portfolio within the next 6 months I guess, so I´m quite in a hurry.

Why within the next 6 months?

I would get a 7D over a 5D classic. Some wedding photographers are even choosing 7Ds over 5DIIs. The 5DI is a great camera though.

I too read alot of photog are using the 7D instead of a 5D due to the better AF system for fast prime shots wide open. The ISO performance of the 7D is nothing to be sneered at either.

Imma buy one on january or feb if Canon doesn't announce anything new. Sorta sold one of the 5d MK II's to a family member for cheap :\
A friend in school has one. The AF isn't something to be taken lightly. Still, I love my 5d,
