You'll do great with the D7000 but don't forget to get some nice lenses as well otherwise you wouldn't see much improvement in image quality by slapping on a crappy lens onto a good camera.
I'm currently using the nikon 35 1.8 mostly
got the tamron 90 2.8 macro, awesome, love it!
got sigma 120-400, love it, but my d3000 can't handle this one so well (long focal length = short shutter speeds = high iso = too much noise)
also using the nikon 18-55, but only at 18mm

I will probably get a nikon 17-55 2.8 sooner or later

I'm not just randomly upgrading my gear, I have been upgrading with clear goals all the time, at least it feels that way..

I bought sb-600 as I thought it would improve my indoor photography a lot, and it did.. Now I need to crank that iso up from time to time ;P
