Funny, I am always trying to add noise somehow ... especially in B&W stuff. I guess it reminds me of the good old film days.

I personally think cameras should have film presets that you can set in camera when shooting. I'd love to crank out the old Kodak Tri-X, T-max,  Portra or HIE ...

Thats about the only time I do it  I love the film look, I dont think its very appreciated around here though.

God that would be so nice. I cant wait to try film, but the cost is going to be ridiculous.

I dont like it unless I add it on purpose, it makes photos look lq.

Weird because the only time noise is visible in my shots is if I push an underexposed high ISO exposure in post. Then the file starts going crusty and artifacts.

Film is so awesome and it really doesn't cost that much.

Well thats what I was saying before, I dont really get noise in my photos  Thats why I didnt understand why this camera thats twice as expensive as mine was producing such noisy photos.

Oh? Ive heard differently from quite a few people. I guess since no one really processes it anymore it costs a lot to get it sent out. Plus I mean, rolls are like $8 now right? For as much as Id be taking photos, it would be costly.

Do you shoot film?

The link has been updated, the post aimed only at the macro ones. Click there, these are not bad at all. Other pictures are noisy, I agree.

I see you meant:

http://robinwong. blogspot. com/2010/10/olympus-e-5-review-macro-shooting-at.html (remove spaces)

Not the updated post which is clearly an illustration of the low light noise handling of a particular camera.

I would say the macros in his link are pretty nice. They are shot using the new E-5 with the 50mm macro lens (100mm efl) ... indeed the shot of the gecko I posted earlier in this thread was shot with the same lens (and yes it is cropped).

The Oly 50mm f2 is incredibly sharp as are the rest of the SHG line.

Noise is more often than not controllable in camera so people shouldn't blame their equipment! :D

There are still heaps of labs out there that process/scan film, not sure if you are close to many? I live within 15 minutes of some great labs, I guess I'm pretty lucky :3

I don't shoot it professionally, just play around with 4x5 sheet film as a hobby (try charging someone processing/scanning costs these days, they'll tell you to fuck off and use a digital camera haha) I used to shoot it all the time during uni though (35mm/120/4x5).
