Crappy sigma... what sigma are you talking about.. unless it's the cheapo ones... most sigmas are pretty darn nice especially for the price.

It's actually the Sigma 10-20 I have complained about it's lack of sharpness in here before lol
I have already sent it in once for calibration but it's still not sharp so I think I just got a bad copy.
So now I have learned my lesson and only buy Canon L lenses instead of those cheaper third party crap

D3000 has far many more limitations than the D40.

D90 photography wise is a better camera than the T2i. T2i is far superior with its video capabilities though. And I think the Nikon kit lens gets slightly better reviews than Canon's.

hmm I thought D3000 is better or at least it got a much improved AF and correct me if I am wrong also LiveView. Besides D40 and the slightly better D40X are just waaaay too old lol.

I am actually very impressed by the specs of the new D7000 which is more of a semi pro camera which in many ways even better than the D300s but yet only cost like 200 bucks more than the D90.

Buy a nicer body used, nicer than any that you listed. And buy a prime lens. Either a 50 1.8 or 35 1.8. Then you can get a kit lens to get you by.

I don't really think this is a great advice for a beginner.. What you are going to want for practice is a versatile lense, not a prime.

I have read many reviews that rate the D40 and D40x above the D3000. It doesn't have live view. It has worse ISO performance than the D40. And the only lenses that auto focus are the new AF-S lenses or the old AF-I. Honestly, the D3000 is a giant piece of shit. Sad to think that the D40 is actually better than something.

The D7000 is very impressive to me. I am in a toss up right now. I have been considering for a long time if I should save up and go full frame. But with that announced I may upgrade to that for less and hold out for a couple more years.

Well the D40 and D40X don't have all those either so it is hard to imagine anything out there would be worse than them lol

Personally I would pick a fullframe over any crop doesn't matter how good they are. I have actually been tempted to get a 7D a few times but decided against it because what I simply have no use for all the extra features it offers over a 50D and it's still a 1.6x crop.
So I have been saving for a ff for awhile now and is getting there lol. I don't think you will have to wait that much longer if Nikon will release a D700 replacement soon so you can just get a D700 at a very low price instead keep upgrading to another crop camera :p

Will you be keeping your 50D after you acquire your FF camera. I think i may keep mine around just for the extra reach.

Personally if I went FF I'd keep my D80 around as a secondary.

I think it will be at least two years before they announce it. Right now I can't see myself shooting enough to justify the need of a full frame as well. Plus I do have my F5 that I can still play around with.

Leaning towards the T2i. All the info has been great so far.

nah... I am actually considering keeping the 40D instead because I am disappointed with the higher ISO performance of the 50D. In some situations the 40D actually produces
cleaner pictures  -_- Though 40D and it's 10Mpixel sensor isn't really that great for cropping... so I guess I will have get upgrade to a better one next yr or something
sigh... I really hate to keep buying new expensive bodies because I consider it as waste of money and prefer buy better lenses but with the release of the crappy 60D Canon is
forcing me to consider the more expensive 7D for action shots when the times comes for me to upgrade

Really??? With only a 12Mpixel sensor and no HD video how are they going to compete with Canon. I mean the only advantage the D700 has over the 5Dmk2 is it's AF and higher FPS but when it comes to image quality
Canon is way better. haha maybe they are trying to force Nikon users to get the 8 grand D3X
Ah so I guess you want to shoot on film. If I were you I would just sell the F5 and D80 and get a D700 and then save for a bunch of good lenses :)

Great choice :)
You will be impressed by the Rebel and later on maybe even get some expensive lenses to get more out of it's 18 mpixel sensor

I think this website will help you alot.
http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/digital_camera_and_lens_reviews.shtml

I personally have Nikon d5000 and they aren't too bad for entry level camera.
Only problem i have with d5000 is that it doesn't have auto focus motor mounted on the camera. So you have to buy afs lens (expensive).
besides that, it gets all the job done i guess.

Hopefully this helps
