imo the d90 with lens' would be the best choice, because its cheaper and glass is the most important thing, but also it has VERY similar features to the d300s, and tbh after a few years you will upgrade to full frame ... and the d300s is not full frame, so you will have spent a lot on something u will replace properly the d700 or market equivalent.

choose your lens' more carefully, don't always go for the kit lens' that nikon do as they aren't always the best choice.

Probably made the wrong choice but chosen the d300s, which i find myself more comfortable with.
The better RAW shooting and the fast shooting is probably worth the more bucks spent on it..

@didi

I am SO UNLUCKY with used stuff.

I see , well a d300s is a extremely good machine aswell,...

but between spending around 1300euros on a new d300s , or spending 1500euros on an used d700 i would take the d700

But u bought a great "toy" aswell :)

HF with it

I would get the d90 and spend the rest in glass. I doubt the d300s pixel quality is dramatically better since it's a crop sensor also (correct me if i'm wrong.. i'm not a nikon guy).

Unless you shoot sports where you need the high burst rate.. i would take better glass instead.

The AF is better, probably better ISO performance and the build maybe better in the 300s. If that's worth the cost to you, then by all means go for it.

/2 cents.

The d300s has four times the d90's sensitivity when shooting in raw.
The sensor is the same, but the converter is different.

Do you have good lenses to use on a pro body?

no point of paying that much for a crop sensor camera what the d300s costs.

also never buy a super zoom lens like that 18-200 lens. they are all crap, its practically impossible to make a good lens with that kind of zoom range.

i bet you could get used d700 and 50mm 1.4 with that 2k budget, maybe you could also get few some old manual focus prime lenses for wide and tele end with the budget

other good choice if you want to go with canon would be used 5d or 1d mkII, those should go for about 1k and you could afford a 17-40mm and 50mm 1.4 lenses, atleast if you bought them used
