I just want to know what kind of cameras people often get the first time they get into photography

I've got a pretty funny story on this :P

I was about 7 years old and at a carnival fair with my mother. They had some type of game in which you had to throw balls at a target, and I won! ( :P ). So out of all the things I picked a very simple film camera (never used or had a camera before, it just looked cool) and I liked it so much that later on (~14?) I bought a point& shoot by Canon, and now have a Canon with lenses/filters and all that.

Or it could be that he has very supportive and encouraging parents :p
I know a lot of parents wouldn't buy advanced toys like cameras to their 7yr old because they are too young to have expensive hobbies like photography

Haha trust me it's nothing advanced. It's pretty much the same as those throw-away film camera's, made out of cheap plastic etc. My mother had a camera though so I wanted one too of course :P

Didn't use it very much but just took pictures of the ducks in my backyard mostly haha. My first contact with camera's though! :)

Well at least she bought you a camera :p What I was trying to say is that I know some parents wouldn't even give their 7yr old a camera at all because they think kids can't really create art other than cute but crude drawings which I think is very ignorant because children are more imaginative than most adults who just grew up and became boring parents and workaholics lol.
btw I guess I am not the only one who bought a camera mainly to take pictures of animals :D
