How long was the exposure?
I can't go for more than 30 seconds on mine, unless there is a special setting to change it....
It's been hot and humid for the past days, but no sign of rain in sight...
I want some thunderstorms so much to try some photos as well!!!
In Québec city they had some nice ones... but near Montreal, still nothing...

Use the "Bulb" setting with a remote control. It is next to 30" on a Canon body. :)

The longest is 30 seconds too for my camera. Like Qhotex said, you need a remote to get longer! :)

Eventually all that heat will bring you a thunderstorm! Just be patient, I had to wait a while to get this storm (it was the first one this year). It was weird though, it thundered pretty good during the day, and then at night there was still some lightning in the distance. Usually it just storms here, and then it's entirely gone.

I heard 15-30sc is the best settings to capture lighting, using a 3200 iso if not higher? ergo some noise comes into factor?

Iso 3200 would be WAY too much noise for lightning photos. These photos here I used iso 800 and got too much noise than what I wanted.

I think it all depends on how fast the lightning is striking. If it's very little, more than 30 seconds might be needed. But usually 30 seconds does the trick, if even less than that.
