Haha. Well I had the sickest car ever, was so fun, but winter hit and it was shit driving in the fuckin snow we had here so I sold it...
Now I'm sol. I think I'll go do NYC with a 450D, get back from NYC and get a car...
Then start workin towards a 5d mk II so I'll have then in Europe/Africa/Antartica in 2011...

What lenses would be good for NYC:
18-55
70-200
50mm
28mm

Depends on what you are going to shoot... architecture.. widest possible. People/street.. I'd use fast primes/high iso for grit and grain. 70-200 in NYC would be attracting unwanted attention.

So should I go for the faster focusing 28mm prime, or the slower focusing 50mm, but with a better DoF?

Why not take both? Assuming you have both.

Edit: And personally I wouldn't make that small of a step up on bodies. If you step up on bodies, go FF.

I would prefer the 28mm for urban walkaround. Just that's just me. Your shooting style may differ from mine.

Also another suggestion. If you have a CC, you can rent lenses from Adorama or B&H. a 35L and a 85L would be sexy for walkaround!!

A quick shows this place. They don't have a good selection though

But you can also rent online from places like lensrental.com or adorama. They're both highly recommended.

How much do you think is a good amount of cash for a "spending" amount in NYC? (I already paid for hotel, and for the plane tickets etc. Food is not a problem)
Just dunno...

For just spending money, $500-1000 depending. The touristy stuff is real expensive.
