here it says that m645 comes with microprism focus screen, thats basically as good as as split image. that set is pretty nice since it comes with metering view finder, but if you do get waist level view finder, you need to use external light meter ince the meter on that set is built on the eye level finder. if your looking for square negatives, that camera doesent make the negatives square, but you get few exposures on one film than you would get with 6x6 camera like hasselblad. one more thing you should remember is that the mamiya doesent have film backs that you could change, so you need to use full roll before you can shoot other iso. but film backs cost bit, so if your not going to get more backs, its no big deal.

i dont agree with that must have digital back since those cheap ones that you might someday be able to afford have so small sensor that its not much bigger than 35mm dslr.

also film is not dead, its not long since kodak announced that new ektar 100 iso color film and i think it was this year when they announced it for large format also.

that 175$ for the camera sound suspiciously cheap, but maybe they sell for that price where you live. here they go for more like 400€ if in working condition, maybe 500€ since there is another lens and metering finder for it.

Ah. Thank you for letting me know about the backs and such. I'm still looking around for a 500c/m, though I have yet to find one under $900.

How do Bronicas and Kievs stack up to the Hasselblads?

You need to be prepared to do a bit of research on your own mate. Head to a local second hand camera store and check all the gear out.

If you haven't already played with or know what these things are like then it will boggle your mind momentarily.

Check out some prices on Mamiya and Bronica kits. Make sure they come with a film back and an inbuild metering system. Forget about TLR's.

I wish I had a local camera store, the only one I know of that was within about 50 miles recently was burned down and hasn't been rebuilt yet.

Medium format is the sexiest format available, hands down.

Mamiya rb67 + 90mm lens + 120 film back. This should get you out of trouble.

Don't get a holga, they are hella gay.

this post is all sorts of fail.

the sexiest format available is large format digital. followed by meduim format digital, followed by digital slr, followed by large format film, followed by meduim format film, followed by 35mm film.

the only advantage shooting meduim format film is gonna get u is being another hipster who has no idea WHY they would want to use certain cameras, only that they think they are cool. I have shot with all that ^^. Sell that rx8 daddy just gave u and buy a hasselblad with a digital back

also, there is absolutly no need for a built in meter. just buy a real meter and learn to use it.

Who has the money (besides high end commercial photographers) to purchase large/medium digital backs?

6x6 has a certain look, no one can deny that. Large format is a fuck to use when things aren't stationary.

Yeah, this guy might be a hipster, but medium format will teach you a lot about shooting real film (on a portability/compact scale)

I doubt he will rush out and buy a 500-600 dollar light meter lol

First off, you need to grow up, I don't care how old you are, your maturity and your attitude need some serious work. It's a wonder you have made it to be anything in the real world if you act like this, if you actually have. Second, spending more than $10,000 on a camera equals a huge failure when one, I make no money from photography now and probably never will, and two there is no way that I can justify having a camera back that is completely useless when I don't have a body verses having a car.

Now can someone please lock this so I don't get another ban because of someone else's own lack of self control?

Thank you to everyone else who gave some helpful information and not just a huge amount of spam.
