Lovely! Do you like the 24-70 f2.8? I am seriously considering saving all my money I make from photographing horse racing events over the year, then buying myself a D700 and another FX lens. But I don't know if I would want to get the 24-70 f2.8 and an older 80-200 f2.8, or the new 70-200 f2.8 vr and an older midrange zoom. I already have a 105mm f2.8 macro and 50mm f1.4 prime, plus it'd be possible for me to borrow the 14-24mm f2.8 if ever I'd ask... Dunno what to do though...

You seriously don't have Photoshop Eek? That is crazy! I'd imagine with all of your expensive toys, you'd surely have photoshop.

>_< I'm working on it lol. It's not exactly cheap :/ Plus i don't really have a "need" for it yet. I'm still getting by with my free copy of Lightroom 3 beta 2.

Haha, I feel ya! The only reason I have it, is because I didn't have to pay for it... Don't really use it though, mainly cause I don't really know how...

24-70 2.8 and the 70-200 2.8 VR are probably the nicest zoom lenses I've ever used on a 35mm format camera.

If you are making money from shooting horse races already, than I would suggest buying the D700 + 70-200 VR + some teleconverters. If you can make money off it now, there's no reason why you can't make more with better gear.

Some advice to yourself and anyone in a similar situation, and this is coming out as complete honesty, keep practicing on your photographic technique before diving into photoshop. Learn composition, light and exposure. Photoshop can really distort your endeavor in creating images :/

Plus, if you are to dive into the deep end, try getting your hands on the student edition. It's a fraction of the price and is the same deal :)

I don't shoot the races with a DSLR though... I shoot a FinishLynx finish line camera. It shoots up to 2k frames per second, but it shoots in slices, then the FinishLynx software puts the slices together in relation to time. So the image will be a still of the finish line, but it will be spread out according to what passed through that area first. The D700 would just be a toy to shoot whatever with. Figured if I make the money through photography, I can spend it on photography. Even though it is a different kind...

Well, my family is into chariot racing, has been for quite a while now. Up until last winter we were using an old strip camera for the finish line shots and times. Then my father decided to buy the FinishLynx and have the chariot racing club buy the software. Then we agreed that the next year the club would pay me to run the camera every week. Then after buying and using the camera we were in contact with some people that run match races, they wanted me to come run the camera at their races. So from there on out I've been shooting horse races, both match races and chariot races. The chariot races run early Jan to early Mar, I don't really make too much money doing those, about $100 per day. Then the match races run April-Dec, thats where the money is at. Usually we make around $750 per event, and there are three events a month. Then I split the money with my dad.
