Wow I already am so confused!!
How do you go in macro function, and control ether the speed or the aperture?
And on the wheel, the flower icon that is supposedly the macro function, doesn't allow me to get closer to the subject..
With the point and shoot was shooting insects at 2 inches..
I am reading the manual and can't find anything about this....
Anyone can help?

edit:
And the car I sold was a 2002 Alero all equipped, running real nice, except that all 4 brakes were completely finished, and it had 198865 km...
I was asking for 900, gave in to 800 and I don't have to worry about it anymore.
I already had bought a new Hyundai Accent last fall.
So it was just rotting away..

you just got it!
play with it for a while and you will get the hang of it.
the are different dials to change the shutter speed /f and iso
you can also do it on the screen too.

for macro you need a macro lens.
that auto close up flower setting is crap!

Minimum focusing distances will be dependent on the lens itself, not any setting on the camera... I wouldn't suggest shooting in that "macro" function setting, as the camera will decide the aperture and shutter speed for you while in that shooting mode. Shoot in manual, that way you will be able to control your DoF. And you don't necessarily need a macro lens... There are cheap alternatives for minimizing focal distances, like extension tubes. There is also reverse rings, but those have way to shallow DoF for my taste. I think the closest you will be able to get without a macro lens or any type of extension is about a foot. And really macro has nothing to do with how close you are to the subject, its all about the reproduction ratio of the lens.

I sold my old car... finally this morning... for 800$

Use part of the money and bought a new..... CAMERA!!!!!!!

YES!!
Finally!!!

Now I am the proud owner of a new (used) Canon Rebel EOS XSi for 500$ including the basic lens, a grip and 2 extra batteries!!!!

I can't take pictures with it yet cause I need to buy a card... will have to do this before I leave for my vacations on Saturday...

First thing I checked is now to take macro pictures...
Seems complicated and I may have to look at a macro lens eventually....

I seems all much more complicated than my little point and shoot!!!!
But I'm so looking forward to try it out!!!

I am sooo happy!!!!!

edit:
Fail at topic title.....
The G was supposed to be a F

Awesome ... yeah because who the hell needs a car anymore?! Happy picture taking!

A whole new world just opened up for you :P
Your point and shood could take macros at a 2 inch distance, but that was most likely on the wide-angle mode, that's the most usual on p/s models iirc.
Macros with a dslr is usually shot with a macro lens. Those are however not any wideangles, rather lenses around 60-1xx mm (I hope you are getting familiar with focal lengths soon).

Anyway, congratulations. I'm looking forward for your pictures, I've seen your work with a p/s and you made some really nice photos with that one alone :)

The macro (Flower) function does not give you to focus closer, it just gives the settings you need for good macro photo. ex. (Lightning, aperture, shutter)
