are you crazy! to straighten the first 2 up would ruin them. the pictures make you a little uneasy because its such a strange hallway that is perfectly straight but its just crooked enough to make you feel like you're not standing right.

those first 2 photos are insane.Best I've seen in this section by far.the way you can get lost in them and how uncomfortable they make you feel is crazy.props.

i agree. those shots were purposely taken at an angle

the rest of the shots from the penitentiary series are all level

and thank you for the compliment, lol

That's why in my post I say "I'd personally" ... not saying "you should" or even "you should personally" ... again Art as is demonstrated by our difference in view is a very subjective subject.

To the OP: Where were the first two shots taken??

eastern state penitentiary, philadelphia
the black and white ones are from my home town in CT, the rest are from philly

edit/ adding another...i think i may get back into photography now that it's getting a little nicer out, i missed my opportunity for winter but i wasn't in the mood to get out and shoot

Hum, dunno why but I don't like #2, looks a bit low res or something, also not very sharp and somewhere blurry or so BUT the rest are really great shots!#4 is my fav!

I really like the first picture!!!
i would also like the second if it wasn't leaning on the right..(I also have this problem of not always having my pictures completely horizontal).
Also it's a shame that the watermarks are so distracting... :(

Bahaha! You clearly haven't been around this section for very long. This section has had many quality shots, and you are a fool if you think other wise.

Don't get me wrong though, the first two shots are indeed nice. And as said what is nice about them is the lighting and atmosphere.

I've been around here for a while.I'm a photography students and definitely am biased against digital/color pictures. It's hard for me to find ones I like and the general definition of a good picture in this section is far from what I normally agree with( Although I am not saying they're bad, just not my taste) But I am no authority on good pictures vs bad,but in my opinion I would say they're the best I have seen. What makes me like them is when you stare at it you feel like you are leaning to the right and your vision begins to twist and all the clutter on the walls begins to blur.

We all have our opinions I suppose, I didn't mean any disrespect. A lot of us in this section don't post only serious work, we all pretty much just enjoy sharing what ever it is that we shoot. As for myself, I haven't been shooting seriously for over a month. Right now I'm in a foreign country and all I've been posting is what I have been experience. But trust me, there have been many quality shots in this section, from all of us. And that is only from what I've seen during the time I've been posting here, which is slightly over a year now.

said that in the posts above, haha

Eastern State Penitentiary, in philly
it is a jail, no longer used so it's now a museum

wish i had a tripod with me >.< i didn't expect it to be so amazing
it was my first time there and pretty dark, had to just stay steady :( this is why i didn't have as many good ones as i'd like to, i took a couple hundred and only picked out around 10, but that's always expected :)

i'd love to go back there with some of my equipment

and to all of you talking about photo expertise, lol
you don't have to like it or think it's a good shot
i love this kind of stuff, macabre-type photos
the only photo classes i've taken were in high school, i don't think they're amazing, but they're nice to look at :)
don't try to figure out how good they are in comparison to others' work...i've seen much better, just enjoy them
keep in mind this thread says 'my favorites' and not 'my gallery' ;)

maybe i'll go back through the series and see if there are any others that i should have picked out to upload --> if i find any good ones i'll post them :D
thank you for the compliments and thank you for the critiques, any photographer knows you need critiques
